How Often Do You Water Cactus Plants? (Cactus Watering Tips)

It's hard to ignore our little piece of desert at home each time we see them. We tend to water them more often than we are supposed to.

But like in the desert, they don't need frequent watering and can go weeks with little water. But contrary to popular belief that cacti hardly ever need to be watered, that is never the case.

It can be tough to know exactly how often to water cactus plants because the amount of water depends on the type of cactus.  But here are a few general guidelines you can follow.

Check the Soil Moisture Stick your finger about an inch into the soil; it's probably time to water if it feels dry.

Use a Moisture Meter You can use a moisture meter to get a more accurate reading of the soil moisture level.

Pay Attention to the Plant's Appearance If the leaves or stems of your cactus are starting to look wrinkled or shriveled, it's a good indication that the plant is getting too dry.

On the other hand, if you notice that the plant is starting to look excessively lush or that the leaves are turning yellow, it may be getting too much water.

The best way is to adjust your watering schedule depending on their look and provide drainage holes to prevent root rot.
